Dathatreyan

We welcomed Dathatreyan on Oct 27 2014. We were very happy on that day,but the happiness quickly faded about two hours after delivery. First of all he had seizures and was admitted to the NICU at the PLC Hospital. It was a shock to us because we never expected any problems. They did an MRI and found that he had a brain injury. At that very moment he showed temperature and sugar fluctuations. After a few days we realized that he had jaundice. They did some tests and said it wasn't normal jaundice and they transferred him to the Alberta Children's Hospital. At this time his stool was white. Then we realized that he had "Biliary Atresia". It is a rare disease of the liver and bile ducts that occurs in infants. That was the first time we had heard about this disease. At 17 days old they did a big surgery for the "Biliary Atresia" called a "Kasai Procedure". We were in the hospital for two months. We struggled a lot mentally and financially as we don't have any family here. I took paternity leave to help take care of our baby. Mom is not working . Dathatreyan had lots of follow up appointments. During this time I also lost my job. We struggled to take care of our baby during this time. We struggled to buy his formula and other basic necessities. The Sarah Faith Hogan Memorial Foundation helped us to find solution for our financial needs by providing us with rent and utilities, some basic necessities for Dathatreyan, and the added cost of hospital parking. Their help and support helped us to reduce our mental stress. Dathatreyan is now doing really well. I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to: God's grace, the SFHMF, and the staff and volunteers at the PLC and Alberta Children's Hospitals.

Sincerely

- Dathatreyan's Family
